What is a Via Ferrata?
Via Ferrata is an unforgettable recreational activity that involves ascending steep, often exposed mountain routes by way of a system of fixed cables, rungs, and/or ladders attached to the quartz conglomerate rock – the term via ferrata means “iron way.”
With a via ferrata climbing route, climbers/hikers use a harness and two lanyards with carabiners attached to the ends to clip themselves to cables. They then progress safely between the iron/steel poles that the cables run between. Experientially, via ferrata offers participants a way to enjoy the fun, thrills, and exposure of technical mountaineering or rock climbing with an easier learning curve.
